Screen group at work!
Before heading off for winter break, the screen group began working on modules for the screen backdrop that will also be acoustically sound.
Initially, we envisioned using clear plastic drum heads of different sizes aggregate together in order to create the circular modules we originally proposed while also using a material that would take acoustics into consideration. Upon experimentation in the lab, however, we discovered sonotube concrete forms that come in a variety of diameters. We were lucky enough to spot them in the lab—they must have been left over from another project. We cut the tubes into circles about 3” wide and ordered shrink wrap and a heat gun in order to make these drum heads on our own. Here are pictures from this experiment with the heat gun and shrink wrap.
